Frequently Asked Questions about the CPM Calculator

What is CPM and how is it calculated?
CPM stands for cost per mille, meaning cost per one thousand ad impressions. The formula is CPM equals total cost divided by impressions, times 1,000. A $500 campaign that delivers 100,000 impressions has a CPM of $5.
How do I solve for impressions or cost when I know CPM?
Rearrange the formula. Impressions equals cost divided by CPM, times 1,000. Cost equals impressions times CPM, divided by 1,000. So a $1,000 budget at a $10 CPM buys 100,000 impressions.
What is a good CPM in 2026?
There is no cross-channel 2026 benchmark that determines whether a CPM is good. Cost changes with country, audience, placement, objective, format, season, auction, and measurement method. Compare the campaign with its own historical results and evaluate reach alongside clicks, conversions, and business value.
How does CPM relate to CPC and cost per conversion?
If you add a click-through rate, the calculator estimates clicks as impressions times CTR, then divides cost by clicks to give cost per click (CPC). Add a conversion rate on top of that to get estimated conversions and cost per conversion.
Should I optimize for low CPM or low CPC?
Low CPM matters when your goal is reach or brand awareness. Low CPC matters when you need traffic or sign-ups. A high CPM with a strong CTR can still beat a cheap CPM that does not engage anyone.
