Indian Percentage to GPA Calculator

This calculator uses its displayed band table to map a percentage to a US letter grade and 4.0 GPA. For example, 85 to 100 percent maps to A (4.0), 60 to 64 percent maps to C+ (2.3), and below 40 percent maps to F (0.0). The bands are a planning convention, not a universal Indian-to-US conversion.

Older CBSE grade reports using the 10-point CGPA used the indicative relation percentage = CGPA times 9.5. To go the other way, divide the percentage by 9.5. A CGPA of 8.0 equals 76 percent, and the maximum CGPA of 10 corresponds to 95 percent, so the tool caps the CGPA at 10. This relation does not apply to every CBSE or university record.

A linear percentage divided by 100 times 4 is a different conversion model. This calculator instead uses its displayed bands, so 85 percent becomes 4.0 rather than the 3.4 from a linear conversion. Neither method establishes an official Indian-to-US GPA. Admissions offices and credential evaluators may use their own course-by-course method.

This calculator uses a common illustrative division convention: First Class with Distinction at 75 percent and above, First Class from 60 to 74 percent, Second Class from 50 to 59 percent, and Third Class or Pass from 40 to 49 percent. Below 40 percent is a Fail in this model. Division names and cutoffs vary by university and program.

Treat the result as a close estimate, not an official figure. Each US university, graduate program, and credential-evaluation service (such as WES) can apply its own cutoffs, and some convert course by course instead of from an overall percentage.
